BC Ferries

By Car

From Vancouver, drive to Horseshoe Bay and catch BC Ferries to Langdale. Sailings leave every 2 hours (with extra sailings in summer) and the scenic crossing takes 40 minutes. Round trip fares are $16.15 for adult passengers and $54.00 for a regular passenger vehicle. There are special rates for children, and for seniors. If you are travelling at a peak time (such as Friday afternoon), you should plan to arrive early or make a reservation in advance to be sure you get on the sailing you want.

PARK AND RIDE

There is long term parking in Horseshoe Bay in the ferry terminal’s parkade, at outdoor Impark lots, and in the Lions Club parking lot across from Gleneagles golf course (there’s a shuttle bus service from the lot to the ferry in summer). If you leave your car and walk on the ferry, you don’t have to worry about line-ups and overloads.

FOOT PASSENGER FERRY

Pacific Ferries Coastal Clipper seats up to 46 passengers and offers afternoon service between Horseshoe Bay and Gibsons, Monday to Friday. Cost is $20 cash or $15.00 pre-paid. Reservations recommended.

TAKE THE BUS

Take the Bus

A round trip to the Sunshine Coast from Vancouver by transit costs approx. $30. At peak commuting times, you can travel from downtown Vancouver to Gibsons in two hours.  Transit fare from downtown Vancouver via Translink is $4.00 each way (via the 257 Horseshoe Bay Express or the 250 Horseshoe Bay routes), foot passenger ferry fare is $16.15 return, and bus fare on Sunshine Coast Transit is $2.00.

BIKE

It only costs an extra $2 to bring your bike on the ferry, so why not? All BC Transit buses are equipped with bike racks and there’s no extra cost. On the Sunshine Coast side, there are world class mountain bike trails on the slopes of Mount Elphinstone, right above the Langdale ferry terminal. One note: each transit bus can only take two bicycles, so there can be waits at peak travel times.

FLY

Harbour Air flies direct to Sechelt from Vancouver Harbour, Vancouver Airport (YVR) and Nanaimo Harbour. Sunshine Coast Air flies daily between Sechelt and Nanaimo Harbour. Once in Sechelt you can travel elsewhere on the coast by bus or taxi, or rent a vehicle.

SAIL, CRUISE OR PADDLE

The protected harbour at Gibsons and its easy cruising distance from Vancouver make it a popular destination. Day and overnight berths are available. Contact Gibsons Harbour Authority, or the Gibsons Marina. Once here, you can rent a boat, canoe or kayak and explore further.
